Time
Youth. Just saying time is basically asking for some monkey’s paw shit.
Even asking for unlimited youth is tricky for the monkey paw could just make you forever a baby.
Now that wouldn’t necessarily mean you’d end up being an adult brain in a baby’s body, just straight up a 1 year old that never develops, always reliant on someone else. You’d literally have 1 year before you’d be surrendered to some sort of institution as a medical oddity whilst you comprehend nothing doomed to overwhelming stimulus forever.
Best you could hope for is specifying an age in your life you consider to be what your physical peak was and just deal with the lack of mental development completion if that physical peak was before being roughly 25 years old.
fuck yeah.
I’ll give up all my other worldly possessions. just for more time.
Time is the only thing of value. Everything else is just managing that one resource.
This is a very self centred view on value. Do you not think that there are things that have value, regardless of how much time you have?
With time, you can make money.
With unlimited time, you can become an artisan in any scope you wish.
All other values are, the long way around, derived from time.
I also disagree that everything valuable can be bought. And also, not everything of value has unlimited time to be reached
For example, maybe you value the natural world in ways that climate change and other human factors are threatening to destroy. Sure with enough time you could get infinite money or influence or whatever to solve the problem, but by then it will be far too late.
With infinite time, you’ll survive past the climate change issues, or perhaps even manage to elevate yourself to the level of supreme ruler with unlimited wealth and have the other billionaires heads on pikes.
I think you’re REALLY underselling unlimited time.
Yes I get that, but again, this is very focused on YOU. What about your friends and family who will suffer from the reduced value of the world. What about the general population?
With unlimited time you could theoretically make a perfect world for yourself, one day. But it does nothing for things that are valuable now.
Don’t get me wrong, unlimited time would be an incredible power, I’m just against the idea that there is nothing of value besides things you could also achieve with unlimited time.

I don’t comprehend how that is focused on me. Anyone save someone with cognitive impairment with unlimited time would progress. They could put $25 in a bank account and check back in 200 years.
who will suffer from the reduced value of the world.
I don’t understand your take on this either. Time creates whatever value is needed. The rest of the world will continue on as it does now, the scope of whomsoever value was extended would extend exponentially. just because one person is granted unlimited time doesn’t take anything away from anyone else, they just become capable of more production throughout their timeline.
With unlimited time you could theoretically make a perfect world for yourself, one day. But it does nothing for things that are valuable now.
That’s the whole point of this exercise, by choosing unlimited time, now is no different. 100 years would be slightly changed. Think bloodless vampire, not Methuselah
I’m just against the idea that there is nothing of value besides things you could also achieve with unlimited time.
Again it’s not that everything else is null, it’s that the power created to the unlimited timeline makes all the other value inconsequential.
I don’t mean focused on you as a specific individual, I mean it only benefits the one picking unlimited time, it does nothing for the rest of the world (which I argue contains lots of value) right now.
Let me give a specific example. Let’s say someone’s loved one is sick with cancer. By choosing “unlimited money” or maybe “unlimited medical knowledge” or “unlimited influence”, they could probably cure the cancer, or at least greatly extend their loved ones lifetime. If they choose unlimited time, then they could not. So are you saying the value of that love one’s life is inconsequential?
Or another, maybe you value human lives, and therefore it would be valuable for all wars to end. By picking “unlimited negotiation skill” or something else, you would be able to almost immediately end any war, and perhaps solve war in general. With infinite time, maybe in the far far future you could achieve this, but what about all the lives lost until then? Are they all inconsequential?
Unlimited waking hours. Imagine not feeling tired, no need for coffee or naps. I do like my naps but it’s because of that afternoon drowsy feeling. Imagine that’s gone!
That sounds like complete and utter hell
Why?? This is my answer as well. There’s just not enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do. There are so many things I haven’t even bothered trying because I know I don’t have the time to learn it well enough for it to be worthwhile.
I know my car repairs are DIYable but I don’t have the prerequisite knowledge so it will take me too long to be cost effective. If I didn’t have to sleep, I’ve got an extra 8 hours a day to learn.
Time, to do nothing productive.
The best kind of time
Cheese, I love cheese.
time
TIIIIIIIIIME
Anyone with wisdom would want that.
You can do anything with time.
Wind it back, wind it forward, generate infinite energy, change all things, fix all things (backwards time manipulation), learn how to do anything.
And the best part: no other superpower needed, no omnipotence, no omniscience.
Just your mortal hands, and time.
The Olive Garden personnel reading the thread; “Huh. I guess nobody wants unlimited garlic bread. Nix it, boys.”
BJs
The restaurant? 🤔
No the warehouse store.
I’m from Texas, my wife is from New Jersey. We had a lot of confusing conversations when we were long-distance about shopping or eating at BJ’s
nope, never heard of such restaurants. the other kinds of BJs
Energy. With infinite energy, I could either create the replicators from Star Trek, or screw up and make a Kugelblitz
Love.
Yesterday I saw here the post of the woman saying the face change of her husband going from :| to :) just by seeing her was the best feeling.
Imagine having this with everyone
Influence. I want to be able to convince everybody with power around the world to actively support a transition away from a system that’s based on hierarchy and coercion to a decentralized and cooperative one.
I could get behind that.
But wealth is power, and power does not corrupt so much as it attracts the corruptible. You would need to work with all manner of sociopaths and malignant narcissists. And these are people who have the least justification for existing in a polite society.
Plus, they would also continue to be parasites on civilization, and continue to pathologically hoard more wealth than they could possibly spend in a million lifetimes.
Honestly, a guillotine is a lot simpler and a lot faster. Take out the top 0.01% of civilization, and the remaining members of the Parasite Class will not fight when you implement 99% top-tier tax rates, close all of the high-wealth loopholes, and build proper social frameworks that benefit everyone.
And this starts with the political system, with a high-tech direct-participation democracy which eliminates all politicians in favour of letting everyone vote on all issues. This requires a foundation with a population that is well educated in critical thinking and bullshit detection (which would destroy all conservatism in the first place), and an economic system (even modified capitalism) that meets everyone’s needs so everyone would have the headspace to deal with societal questions without being forced to always focus on economic survival. Without this political framework, socialism/communism of any form would continue to be corrupted and co-opted by strongmen and tyrants.
Because when you look at any attempt to implement communism in the past, it never survived beyond a few months to maybe a year or so. Sure, Russia had its revolution in 1917, but by 1918 Russian communism was effectively dead; taken over by an authoritarian kleptocracy no different than a feudal system.
We’re talking anarchism, not communism
Communism can very much be decentralized, and in fact a correct implementation tends to be exactly that.
Because that’s where “communism” the term comes from - community, communal, etc…
In practice, it isn’t, usually. None of the communist states extant today or historically had a decentralized system without hierarchies.
Which is why these were never communist states, any more than North Korea is democratic, or the old East Germany was a republic.
Just because these states wore the word “communism” like a thin veneer of legitimacy, does not a communist state make.
Well I’m glad you can say that.
In my experience there are people who defend both China and “DPRK” as a communist paragon with reasoning that is although extensive dodges any real criticism of China (from either an external standpoint, or from within a communist pov).
It was my impression that such “tankies” are the primary base of communists (or common enough for it to be a problem), which pushed me away from it.
Eternally youthful but mortal life.
I don’t mind dying. Death is what makes life have meaning. Let me live long enough and at some point I would be eager to wrap up my concerns and shuffle off this mortal coil.
But I would prefer to die on my own terms, at a time of my own choosing, and in the meantime exist with all the physical and mental vigour of someone between the ages of 25 and 45.
And the key is not being immortal, as I would not want to always survive grievous injuries. I would want to be mortal on purpose – if an accident would kill a normal human despite immediate medical attention of the highest modern quality, I would want to die just the same. I would not want to continue existing as bloody paste paining the interior hull of an airliner that smacked into a mountain.
But barring accidents, I would love to loiter and observe the next few centuries in great health and youthful vigour. Doing what, I don’t know. That’s for the future to determine. But it would be interesting.
Cuddles from puppies and my wife
I also want unlimited cuddles from op’s wife. /s
Not without my puppies!
Living space. Imagine being able to instantiate unlimited pocket dimension instances and invite people to live there for free, would be really cool.
“What do you mean the party can’t use a bag of holding as shelter? It’s got infinite space don’t it?”
“Dependent on a fixed entry orifice!”
“Please don’t call it an orifice.”
I don’t have the organizational skills for infinite space. I would never be able to find anything.
If you’re homeless you have unlimited living space.
Well sort of. Is it really yours if you can’t be secure in your person or belongings? Being homeless wouldn’t be so bad if you had a magically powered hiding space that can be accessed from anywhere that no one else can get to if you don’t want them to.
