We believe in a decentralized, privacy-respecting internet. This instance of Lemmy is operated by kat with the goal of providing a safe space for discussion with minimal data collection.

Our Commitment (The “No-BS” Clause)

This instance is a labour of love, not a business. I am deeply committed to the principles of digital privacy and individual liberty.

  • We do not sell your data. Not now, not ever.
  • We do not track you. There are no hidden “pixels,” no Google Analytics, and no advertising scripts.
  • We do not cooperate with surveillance. I believe your private data belongs to you.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Data: When you register, we store your username and a hashed version of your password. If you provide an email address, it is used only for account recovery or notifications.
  • User Content: We store the posts, comments, and community subscriptions you create so they can be displayed to you and others.
  • Technical Logs: Our web server (Nginx) may temporarily log your anonymized IP address, browser type, and time of access. These logs are used solely for security and are automatically deleted after 3 days.

2. Data Federation (The Fediverse)

Lemmy is a federated platform. When you post or comment, that information is broadcast to other instances.

  • External Servers: We cannot delete your data from servers we do not control.
  • Deletion Requests: If you delete a post here, we send a “Delete” request to other servers, but their compliance is up to them.

3. Your Rights

  • Privacy is a human right: I operate this instance under the belief that you should be able to speak freely without being indexed by advertisers.

Terms of Service

By using this instance, you agree to the following:

  1. Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use this service.
  2. Account Responsibility: You are responsible for the security of your account and any content posted under your username.
  3. No Warranty: This service is provided “as-is.” While I do my best to keep it running 24/7, I am not liable for any data loss or downtime.
  4. Federation: You understand that your public posts will be shared across the Fediverse.

Code of Conduct

To keep this a friendly place for everyone, we have a few simple rules. Use common sense and be a decent human being.

1. Zero Tolerance

The following will result in an immediate and permanent ban:

  • Illegal Content: Do not post anything that violates international or local laws.
  • Harassment & Hate Speech: No promotion of violence or hatred based on race, gender, religion, or identity.
  • Doxxing: Sharing private, identifying information about others is strictly prohibited.

2. Community Standards

  • No Spam: Don’t flood the instance with automated content or excessive self-promotion.
  • NSFW Labeling: Use the NSFW tag for content that requires it. Keep it out of community titles.
  • Respect the Mods: I (kat) and any future moderators have the final say. If you’re being a jerk, you’ll be asked to leave.

If you see something that breaks these rules, please use the Report button. I’ll look into it as soon as I can.
