I don’t want to accidentally interact with the same people over and over but I’m dumb and start posting comments without realizing it. So I use it with attention grabbing colors to be like “hey, make sure you’re not just commenting on everything this person posts”.

Or I like to give people nicknames too. We do a little parasocial

I use them to tag warnings and green flags for people. That way I know if someone isn’t the type for disagreements or if I should value their opinion more due to some fact. Maybe somebody is tagged as excellent coder due to some great code they shared. Maybe as asshat if they’re an asshat. Or, more commonly, tagged as AI Info so I know to take their words with a grain of salt.

Also so at a glance being able to recognize cool people from one community in another. Like seeing pmjv in the wild. Helpful without the profile pics

Can you use multiple tags? Say someone who’s an excellent coder and an arsehat, do they get both or does one have to win out? Alternatively do you make a new tag for them? Excellent arsehat?

I’m honestly curious, I’m haunted by people using too many, too varied, and too generic tags in DevOps and am doing anything to find a way to remedy it.

I tag people for the same reason the other person mentioned but also, if you want to spread a bit of joy, tag someone who makes you smile or if someone seems down on themselves. Next time you see them in the wild, remind them they cheered you up or that they matter :)

Is that client-specific? I bounce between Voyager and Jerboa for reasons. Voyager has user tags, and I have some people tagged as “Fave” there, but I can’t find that in Jerboa.

I rarely use the web interface, and haven’t looked there.
