Technology@lemmy.world•China’s ‘land aircraft carrier’ charges flying drone with microwave beamEnglish
152·10 days agoI have a 6 year old electric car that takes 40ish minutes to charge, now BYD has batteries that will go from 10% to 70% in 5-10 mins.
In a few years time these drones will be getting charged from a microwave stream of power from a solar array floating in the upper atmosphere.

Technology@lemmy.world•Iran’s AI memes are reaching people who don’t follow the news – and winning the propaganda warEnglish
5·10 days agoThe Iranian video in this article is crap, the music doesn’t “slap” as the kids are saying these days.
The rap ones are pretty slick, this one was just saying people are going to become Islamic because Trump and Netanyahu suck.
Just rewatched the movie last night. It is a masterpiece of a film, the shots, the music, the acting (other than Tarantino himself who was stiff) were all near perfect.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some foods that LOOK awful but TASTE great?
1·10 days agoI guess the beans on toast was because my mom was Irish and heard of it through my dad and probably never used chipped beef, so did beans instead.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some foods that LOOK awful but TASTE great?
2·10 days agoShit on a Shingle, I though that was beans on toast.
I used it for Mechwarrior because it was exclusive. Never ended up playing it because my computer was a bit glitchy at the time. Now that I’ve upgraded the computer, I would rather play the games I have on steam rather than install epic for one game.
I got very expensive prescription Bolle sunglasses, they were stolen from my car. That was back in 2004 and weren’t worth the money for something I wore about 4 times before they were stolen.
I have Maui Jim sunglasses that are great, the polarization is excellent for seeing wildlife in the water. I only wear them occasionally as I’d rather wear 10 dollar glasses I don’t care about wrecking. So I have 4 or 5 pairs of different styles of cheap ones. Most important is to get polarized lenses, other than that if you go cheap you can try every style until you find the right ones for you.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK about precordial catch syndrome: a recurring sharp, stabbing chest pain that worsens when you take a breath and only lasts a minute
6·19 days agoSounds kinda similar to costochondritis, it is central chest pain. I thought it was a heart attack when I had it and went to the ER. Fortunately it was just costochondritis.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When did Jesus become a christian?
35·22 days agoHe never existed. He is a figment of a religious groups imagination. He is a fictitious character based on ideas of what a religion needs as a figurehead.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you keep in your pockets and which pocket do you keep them in?
2·24 days agoLeft pocket: phone and if I don’t have a bag then also my secrid wallet behind my phone with my screen against my leg.
Right pocket: folding knife, dog poop bags
If it’s cold then my vest has my gloves and toque when I get to warm.
If it is dark then I have a light clip on my chest in some way so the light is in shining on my path.
If I’m hiking light then I probably have an extendable hiking pole with folding water bottle.

Games@lemmy.world•What was the first game you ever bought ?English
6·1 month agoRise of the Triads. It was not worth it because there was a fault on the 5th floppy disk so it never worked and I couldn’t bring it back to the store because I was 13 and wasn’t supposed to be buying violent games but I bought it without telling my parents. So I couldn’t take it back without them finding out.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a good age bracket for this pile of trash I found on my land?
101·1 month agoI’d say late 80s to early 90s trash, that football looks like one I bought at a garage sale in the 90s but was at least 10 years old when I bought it. Plastics often have production dates, a small circle of numbers from 1 to 12 with an arrow points at the month of production with the numbers on either side of the arrow being the year.

Technology@lemmy.world•A million new SpaceX satellites will destroy the night sky — for everyone on EarthEnglish
1·1 month agoOk so they would orbit above the field of space junk, would they by any chance have to fly through that field of space garbage to get up to that higher orbit?

Technology@lemmy.world•A million new SpaceX satellites will destroy the night sky — for everyone on EarthEnglish
2·1 month agoIt might be super cheap in the future to launch them but it will be into a field of fast moving garbage. The cost effectiveness of throwing more and more telescope up into space to try and get pictures before they get knocked out by the debris of the past will be a losing proposition.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is likely to happen when/if trump dies?
7·1 month agoI think Scientology outlasted Hubbard because the basis of the cult is to constantly collect blackmail on the members through assessments which makes it hard to leave without your dirty secrets getting released and every person in your life cutting you off.
My mom is in her 70s, she spends all her time collecting old antique dolls to make clothes for and 1950s and 60s ceramic vases. I understand it is to distract her from grief over my sister’s death so I say nothing but remind her to book more therapy sessions.
I know I’ll just be inheriting three (and counting) display cabinets of German pottery and having a bonfire of dolls.

Technology@lemmy.world•Robot dogs priced at $300,000 a piece are now guarding some of the country’s biggest data centersEnglish
31·1 month agoOne or two shots from a silenced 22 rifle would shut these dogs down without all the hassle of feeling bad about shooting an actual dog. It would keep you far enough away to not be filmed.
This would cost the data center 300k while only costing 15 cents or less for two bullets.

Everybody knows.
