If someone didn’t understand, I mean something like this, not quite so bad, well, sorry, I just found this picture:

Sure. Jehovah’s witnesses, Baptists, and Miss Mary, mom of a friend of one of my kids, nice lady but the only fundamentalist Catholic I’ve ever met, so many kids that each one got a birthday party every 5 years (but a BIG party), we went to one and there was a pony, little tables set up in their yard for the kids, she wrote a song as a present for her kid and sang it, that was nice, and when the kids were getting their pictures taken, said “say Jesus!” to get them to smile.

Oh and once when I was a kid my friend took me to their church and there was speaking in tongues, they did not want me to leave without being overcome and speaking in tongues that was kind of terrifying.

There also used to be a church near us called “The Church of Christ Upon the Rock of the Apostolic Faith Holy Temple #2” . Which always made me wonder where the first one was.

We get jehovas witnesses trying to recruit people at the door once every while. They’ve never been an issue here, when you tell them you’re not interested they just leave.

I always tell them I’d love a chat about their bible and the morality of their god. The brave ones that stick around find out I’ve read their bible a bit too well.

My grandparents on my mom’s side became Jehovas at a later age.

Grandma used to send longwinded letters about Satan and whatnot. When I grew up a bit I started to take enjoyment in just talking to her about Christianity, but just in a way that pointed out the irrationality, as she would always hang up, mad, because she didn’t have the answers. Like just the problem of Evil, but framing it so that Satan might be evil, but God made him, so what does that make God? Things like that, can’t recall, she passed away like 10 years ago.

My mother was, for a while, a religious education teacher … at one point she got into hot water for teaching about all major world religions equally.

Anywho, after retirement she used to absolutely devastate the JWs over a nice cup of tea.

I first read that as “secretarian”, and thought long and hard and concluded that I hadn’t - Closest thing I can think of is Office Managers.

As for sectarian, yes, actually. Well, former. I used to know this woman who grew up in BCC

A (former?) friend of a friend is a MAGA BlueLM (ex-?)cop. That counts as sectarian, right?

Anyway, he seemed fairly ordinary, and I even had a reasonable chat with him before I found out. He crashed out pretty hard when he realised the online community he’d joined were mostly left-leaning, diverse and often neurospicy folks who wouldn’t take kindly to him saying Trump was a good thing.

Parenthetical question marks because I have no idea if he’s retired, nor whether he’s still friends with our mutual acquaintance. I haven’t seen him around since that crash out.

“Sectarian refers to things relating to, or devoted to the beliefs of a specific group, sect, or denomination. It frequently implies a narrow-minded adherence to a particular group’s ideology and can describe intense, often hostile, divisions between different factions.”

They are all over the place here and most internet communities.
