I would absolutely think twice or thrice about recommending GoT. In fact, I’ve already recommended some friends to not watch it. Some amazing episodes, perhaps some of the best scenes ever seen on TV, and by far the most upsetting, spit-in-the-face, negligent final season from any show I’ve ever seen. Umbrella Academy wishes it had as bad an ending as GoT, if only for the infamy.

Anyway 3 Body Problem looks really promising and I’m sure the creators, whoever they are, will absolutely nail it…

but seasons 1-4 I would not have missed them. best show ever. but from s5 on it gets silly and sloppy and s8 wow… i felt like someone should go to prison for this, like someone deliberately damaged a pierce of art. i was so engaged with this show that i felt personally attacket by this terrible season 8 plot disaster.

This is because season 5 is when it really leaves the source behind, or at least, starts taking the path away from source harder. I think S05e04 is the last episode I watched simply because too much was happening that wasn’t source, which meant everything else to come that was going to be way out of whack. S04 really fucked me off though. I had been waiting for the battle of the wall for so long, all the other e09 episodes of seasons past were so good, then the battle at the wall felt so lackluster compared to what could have been. I really gave up on it after that.

The first few seasons though were absolute gold. I will never not feel good about stopping watching that given how much hatred the later seasons got. Never watched them, never will. Just like i’ll never read the rest of the books cause he will never fucking release them.

Game of Thrones was a very good adaptation until they passed the end of A Dance With Dragons.

Some things were improved. I think show!Daenerys is better than book!Daenerys. Her whole storyline was improved in the show, especially in terms of pacing.

Some things were underwhelming or completely changed. They failed to make Tryion and Ramsay Bolton truly monstrous, but I get that some things don’t play well on screen. They also butchered my favorite character (Stannis Baratheon) because they fundamentally misunderstood his motivation. Fine, whatever, I’m over it.

I would still recommend the show up through season 5.

Everything after that is high-budget fanfic in terms of the story and the quality of the writing. I disliked the ending of the show – it felt very slapdash and didn’t feel “realistic” within its existing context. I would recommend that new viewers just stop after season 5 and imagine how they think things should resolve after that.

Better yet, read the books instead.
