Paul McCartney’s official Reddit account seems to have been banned. The account, u/paulmccartney, had just dropped a set of photos and videos from the first night of his shows at the Fonda Theatre. It went straight into the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit. Then, not long after, the whole thing disappeared.
It’s funny how a lot of the complaints I’m reading here are about how Reddit is unfriendly toward left-leaning people but all the right wing people complain about how Reddit is a cesspool of liberal propaganda.
It just goes to show that the platform plays both sides just to promote hate and anger.
I visited after I got banned and the default posts that show up without logging in (therefore uncurated) were all so irritating that I had to assume they were all ragebait.
Reddit is a cesspool of liberal
Liberals are not left wing
Ok, whatever. The point was that they have fun seeing us bicker over shit for their profit.
But the right doesn’t know that.
Yes they are. Liberal covers a wide range of ideology. The liberal versus leftists debate is a Russian pysop
The American use of political terms like liberal and socialist are warped from their original meanings.
Both can mean supporting healthcare for everyone for example. Even though that’s neither a policy following from the theory of liberalism, nor is socialized healthcare dependent on following socialism.
The same is true for progressivism and leftists. All of these terms are often used interchangeably to the previous two.
There’s a deep lack of nuance and specificity.
Actual Marxist leftists and democratic liberals are ideologically opposed to another in many ways. In the US they might agree on better healthcare for everyone and waving rainbow flags. Liberals should be for free markets, (regulated) capitalism, freedoms, etc. A leftist should be opposed to all of these. Freedom to a Marxist means something else than to a liberal.
Nowadays a lot of political discourse across the spectrum is deeply rooted in identity, creating division, virtue signaling, moralist preaching, etc.
Discussion on specific politics and details is often cut short by the above campism and clinging to identities.
This applies to the right and the left equally.
Reddit is hostile towards left-leaning people, and it is also a cesspool of liberal propaganda. Liberals fucking hate leftists, even more than they hate fascists, because liberalism is fundamentally pro-capitalism. That’s why the mainstream media is currently crashing out about people like Hasan Piker, who actually represent a growing base of support for socialism, and they run every possible smear they can.
Lmao I feel the same. Literally feels like rage bait. Like these people are so freaking ignorant. It doesn’t help a lot of Reddit posts are just bots recirculating old content.
I got banned for posting that Trump is a piece of shit. KTHXBAI!
From my perspective “liberal” is still right-wing.
Welcome to your own reality
Liberalism is fundamentally a right wing ideology, it’s primarily concerned about the freedom of markets, rather than the freedoms of people, and when it comes down to choosing between the rights of individuals and the interests of corporations, liberals will side with business interests, nearly every single time. Usually, they’ll always couch it in more progressive terms, like talking about jobs and economic growth. That’s why both mainstream Democrats and mainstream Republicans agree on most issues, because they’re both pro-business, pro-capitalist institutions.
So you can’t be pro human liberty anymore? That’s what being a liberal is to me. Corporations are not our friends and hate them as much as a leftist. In my mind, my and my peoples liberty trumps your idea of a perfect economic system. Whatever happens along the way to socialism or back to capitalism, human rights must come first. I don’t know why that concept is so hard for leftists to grasp. I think leftists are affected by a similar psyop that affects Republicans in this regard
Of course you can, but when people identify themselves or others as “liberal”, they’re not referring to individual liberty, they’re usually referring to “liberalism”, which does contain some elements of individual liberties, but far more importance is given to free market economics and free flow of capital, than it is to individual freedoms. That’s why corporations can invest anywhere and borders don’t pose much issue for them, whereas it is very hard and expensive for individuals to move to another country.
You’re talking about lasseiz fair liberalism. Billionaires and corps are not in any way shape or form “liberal” these days unless you want to talk about neoliberals who pretend to be altruistic. It’s all a psyop to divide the proletariat
No, I’m just talking about liberalism. You probably have some high-minded enlightenment-era ideals floating around in your head about what liberalism is, but I’m telling you, your ideas about how liberalism is about freedom, that’s the actual psyop to divide the proletariat you spoke of. Liberalism is functionally one big propaganda operation to replace monarchies with oligarchies.
I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Moreover, you seem to be lumping a bunch of things together.
Are you American? I could blame that on the lack of a proper representative democracy. Everything gets shovelled together into either one camp or the other, even when they don’t have anything related to each other.
I know a great deal about what I’m talking about, but if you feel that I’m wrong about something in particular, I’d be happy to discuss it. I am not American.
More like the European reality.
Compared to Europe, America doesn’t have a left wing. Just a right wing and an extreme right wing.
"Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property, and equality before the law.[1][2] "
Which translates to:
- Lower taxes.
- Less welfare.
- Defunding public services in favour of private services.
- Less regulation/“smaller government”.
- More laws protecting acquisition and ownership.
In other words, all the basic right-wing talking points minus nationalism, religion, and “country first”.
“Wing” is not the term to use. Liberals sat on the left side of parliament, literally the left wing of a hall, so it’s accurate and quite literal to call them “left wing”. What isn’t accurate is calling them leftist, as in socialist, and I think that’s the term everyone is actually talking about? Everyone is talking past each other here cause of the wing thing.
Well… The “wing” of a parliament very roughly represents a political compass. Liberals aren’t left-wing anymore by virtue of having more politically left parties that occupy those physical seats today.
It does create a very funny situation like here in Denmark where “Venstre” (literally The Danish word for “Left”) is a right-wing political party. More right-wing than “Liberale Alliance” (Danish Liberal Party).
But Venstre used to be the left-wing party when it formed. Since then, green parties, socialist parties, communist parties, and various parties adjacent to those ideologies, have formed to occupy the left side of the parliament seats, pushing Venstre’s physical seating position all the way to the right side.
With liberals and moderates being more politically left than them, Venstre now sits right next to the most conservative parties of Denmark. They’re still keeping the name, though.
yea just like other social media platforms, they allow astroturfing thats why its both sides getting triggered.
It’s because the platform is full of people who can’t handle someone not agreeing with them, so anyone who says they’re wrong is immediately labelled as the enemy.
Worse, they allow these same people into power while the real owners of the site make money out of the inhumanoids overrunning the whole system.
Removed by mod
How does that biowaste bin fire still have users who can read and write?
Reddit has a lot of established local community subreddits, and when you are that established, its hard to give up.
Disclaimer: I was just banned on a second account after being found out for my first ban (I said some things with, well, lets say “high praxis”) and I am not happy about it.
I was banned for prohibited content on my “other accounts.”
I only have one account. (Appeal was denied, and I suspect the entire operation was done by bots. It literally said, “go look at your other accounts to see what you did wrong.”)
Meanwhile, another user over there is advocating violence against a very well known public figure (I’m sure you can guess what and who), and the comment is still up and the poster is not banned. -throws up hands-
i got first permabanned by a mod from r/news for commenting “when a terrorist hides in a school full of children it is not ok to blow up the school with the children still in it” under an article about IDF doing just that while hunting for some hamas fighters (no warning, no previous infractions, straight permaban, reason: “you broke the community rules” - no further explanation). it hurt a bit cause i did not participate in any political discussions normally. but shortly after that there was a picture of WW2 nazi flag on someone’s front yard in ohio and people started suggesting that someone should bring a veteran to this person to explain them the error of their ways. i didn’t resist and responded that this person knows exactly what they are doing and they do it cause there are no consequences to it. i also wrote that somebody should “tar and feather them and chase them around” - after which my account got restricted cause “we are trying to create a community where everyone can feel safe and therefore we cannot tolerate calls for violence against others”.
I got banned for keeping it too real. 😎
I too am a refugee from Reddit.
Do we refer to ourselves as Lemmings now?
Because there are still a lot of content creators, especially in the technology field. If the process of sharing code and projects and receiving feedback took place on another platform, nobody would use Reddit. That’s my only reason.
The other night I was watching John Stewart and he made an interesting comment. He said that reddit only recently became usable because it was too gross before. Insane especially from him
whoever has the most users has most of the users. until they decide they don’t have any users, they will continue to have this true statement be correct constantly
Your pictures are welcome here, Paul!
TIL Sir Paul McCartney is on Reddit.
Was on Reddit
Fux you spez.
Kind of tangential to the topic but reddit has been appropriating user names for celebrities and companies. The first known instance (as far as I know) was u/borat. I was surprised thiskind of thing wasn’t a bigger deal.
I wouldn’t be surprised if u/paulmccartney is such a case. A basic name that’s only a 5 year old account. No way nobody grabbed that before.
But how would a fake Paul get access to the real Paul’s private footage of his own, not-filmed-by-audience show?
That’s exactly how they getcha. It’s the perfect con, you see!
Start by killing the real Paul in a motorcycle accident.
all the evidence is on their albums if you play them backwards
it would be hard to fake it, if they can provid actual private footage. gary sinese is another one that is on reddit quite often, he posts something that nobody has.
That moderator should be un-moderated.
The whole platform should cease to exist.
Yes, I’ve been getting very bad vibes from that place for a while now. It seems very filtered and the content is no longer reflective of what people upvote. It’s tracking more to corporate interests and propaganda. Also, I think a lot of people have unintentionally divulged their most private information and don’t even know it. Their innermost thought expressed in comments, likes dislikes cataloged in votes, all under the false sense of an anonymity. It would be very easy, especially now with AI, to link IPs, browser thumbprints, and writing style analysis back to individual people, at a mass scale. I think a reckoning is coming.
Man. Reddit has really just become a joke.
It’s so bad it almost seems intentional.
I got a 3 day ban yesterday for “threatening violence or harm” for posting about OP breaking both his arms in a thread bringing up past reddit memes. I had left reddit for almost two years before being drawn back in for a handful miscellaneous subs. I don’t think I’ll be going back.
Lol.
I literally just got suspended 15 minutes ago for promoting violence for pointing out that America is going to see a rise in terrorism going forward for our actions in the middle east.
No call to violence. A simple statement of fact.
I know how to circumvent Reddit’s methods for keeping me out, so I’m already back in with a new account. I have a browser script that re-adds all my subs for me. And I know I’m not shadowbanned cuz I know how to check that. This’ll probably be my 50-70th Reddit account in the last decade. Which means Reddit has been trying and failing to keep me off their platform for a decade. I don’t even care that it’s just a 3 day suspension. I’m not going to be silenced for 3 days.
Fuck Reddit.
They’re making money by doing it. Conservatives monetize better.
…Reddit is the opposite of Republican. The people there are aggressively far left. It is hard to believe that it’s not an artificially enforced echo chamber.
The problem with echo chambers is that they are politically sterile. By aggressively forcing Republicans and moderates off the platform, we lose the ability to influence their stances and opinions. It becomes a circle jerk.
No. Get out.
I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.”
And the dude next to me says, “hey i’m not doing anything, i’m a paying customer.” and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, “out. now.” and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed
Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.”
And i was like, ohok and he continues.
"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it’s always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don’t want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.
And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.
And i was like, ‘oh damn.’ and he said “yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people.”
And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven’t forgotten that at all.
Reddit mods (actual mods not subreddit mods) are a bunch of filthy pedophiles.
Is Paul on Lemmy yet?
reddit says he wasn’t banned but temporarily restricted during a password reset requirement, which showed him as banned due to a reddit bug
Fuck Reddit Mods. Well not literally, of course.
I say fuck Reddit and Lemmy too for not providing the tools to audit modderators. Like we need a removed post/comment/account graveyard where anyone can review and inspect what is being removed with the reasons as to why so that we can have assurance mods are not abusing. Like it is such a simple problem to solve , yet no one wants to implement and thus, here we are.
Aren’t you just describing a modlog? The only annoying feature is that mod name is obscured so you have to jump a couple hoops to find who did what and whether they still are mods.
Oh yeah. That is sort of what I was envisioning. It is not really feature complete, but a step in the right direction. Thanks for that link. At least Lemmy is trying versus Reddit that lets it fester.
It used to have the mod names when I first got here. I don’t know why they changed it.
Oh hey, yeah, been this way for at least 4 month since… you’ve permabanned me off people twitter 😂 Mind lifting that?
I will give you another chance. If I see a hint of faqing around or picking on users, you’re out. I rarely permaban people but give them a break, so I must have been pretty sure. Don’t make me regret this.
reddit deleted my account for no reason. i did nothing bad to warrant it getting banned. so i feel it was a similar case for paul
I kinda want Section 230 to be revoked so the dam can break on “wrongful ban” class actions.
You are only allowed to post Goat Head Smoothie on Reddit
We all know the reason. That mod couldn’t resist the autoerotic arousal of the ultimate unjustified ban. They live for those.
