This is literally George W. Bush’s fault, he’s the one who pushed the DST changes several weeks earlier in the spring and later in the fall in 2005. This and Hurricane Katrina happened at the same time.

661·4 days agoArch Aplin, the owner of Buc-ee’s, is a huge Republican donor who backs Trump-aligned candidates in Texas, including Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton. Buc-ee’s really lost me when they opened one in Bastrop on 71 and planted a billboard over Hruska’s, trying to drive away their business, but I would never go there regardless.

12·8 days agoIs there any evidence this is happening at Ars Technica? They’re pretty transparent about their methods, and obviously tech-savvy. Just because it happened at Teen Vogue doesn’t mean it’s happening at Ars. Conde Nast publications seem to be run pretty independently. Take The New Yorker, their content remains amazing and seems fully independent.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is the USA attacking Iran?English
391·9 days agoThis is way bigger than just Israel, most of the Gulf Arab states hate Iran and would love to see its government fall. They’ve been funnelling literally billions of dollars to the Trump family since just before he took office again. The Qataris, Emiratis, Bahrainis, and Saudis are all openly bribing Trump, and this attack is almost certainly at least partially, if not mostly, driven by their talks with Trump behind the scenes.

There’s literally a species of laurel native to Mexico that indigenous Americans used in their food for thousands of years.
Bay leaves come from various plants and are used for their distinctive flavour and fragrance. The most common source is the bay laurel (Laurus nobilis). Other types include California bay laurel, Indian bay leaf, West Indian bay laurel, and Mexican bay laurel.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Without getting in a fight. Why is it called coming out of the closest? Where did it begin? I mean why not a garagde or a bedroom or something? How did it become a reference to homosexuals?English
33·13 days agoThe pre-1950s focus was on entrance into “a new world of hope and communal solidarity”, whereas the post-Stonewall Riots overtone was an exit from the oppression of the closet.[15] This change in focus suggests that “coming out of the closet” is a mixed metaphor that joins “coming out” with the closet metaphor: an evolution of “skeleton in the closet” specifically referring to living a life of denial and secrecy by concealing one’s sexual orientation. The closet metaphor, in turn, is extended to the forces and pressures of heterosexist society and its institutions.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I never see them because they aren't legally allowed on the road.English
1·16 days agoVery early on, I think there were some well-meaning people who were really excited about it. The idea of an all-electric truck was brand new, and the promise was huge. It unfortunately wasn’t until after many Cybertruck preorders had been secured that Elon plainly revealed his true colors, and then after it was delivered that people found out it was a piece of garbage
Where does that funding come from?
