People are very selective about who to empathize with. Not everyone, but enough people. I feel like almost all of my problems stem from that, somewhere down the line.

You should really stop acting like a country is some monolithic thing where everyone thinks and behaves the same. That’s not how it works anywhere. C’mon big dog, a little nuance isn’t going to hurt you.

No fucking clue. I think the fact that it’s so baffling is part of what’s turned it into a meme.

Half the reels I’ve seen on Instagram in the past have a copy pasted description that starts with “Japan is turning footsteps into electricity!” Regardless of the content of the reel. It’s on everything from make-up tutorials and videos of cute animals, to videos about Israel’s human rights abuses.

You should see some of the “American food” they sell in some parts of Europe and Asia. I feel like it’s pretty typical everywhere to misunderstand and exoticize other cultures.
