51·23 hours ago“not good for you” is relative. Heavily dependent on individual case by case and against what standards. Sure, there are many better alternatives. But I’d argue there are even many more worse ones.
This depends on your view of weight. For some people, weight means “we are talking about excess body fat”. For others, weight means “we are talking muscle mass”. In reality, it’s both.
So it could very well be that someone eating more protein and water is building muscle mass faster than they are losing fat. Fat can take a while to burn down in a healthy manner. Also having more fat means you will also retain more water, of which you are drinking more now to begin with.
Of course you will weigh more. But if you keep at it you will eventually weigh less, presuming you didn’t gain muscle like a hulk.
I thought AI would eventually make every profession based on thinking and creativity redundant or obsolete, so if you ask me we’ll die of depression caused by AI. But maybe you are right and we die of dehydration first.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think about the fact that AI blurs the line between reality and fiction and devalues art and real people?
5·3 days agoPeople fail to see that AI is becoming a middleman for everything that requires thinking and removing the human to human thought-based interactions from our lives. In particular the indirect human to human interactions. This is a massive loss.
The replies here got me typing so much I can’t post a proper reply to this. I’ll make a post and link you to it, but it will be a long one.
This depends a lot on where you live, under what kind of government, your socioeconomic background and the personality of your close friends and family.
I grew up in Argentina and I don’t think anyone believes they can really trust the government. Consensus among high school kids is that everyone is corrupt and exploiting legal loopholes is considered the norm.
Now I can’t say there was much of a privacy concern in my circles, in my experience, and that’s still the case today, decades later, in a totally different country. So yeah it depends a lot on a lot.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is using a copyrighted image/image that isn't yours as an avatar actually okay?
71·4 days agoTechnically illegal yes, practically I don’t think most people would care. As an artist I’d be stoked to see someone using my work as a pfp. It doesn’t generate revenue, it’s too small to be exploited in any other meaningful way, so it’s just a small statement of personality.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it bad to have a male best friend when you’re in a relationship?
10·4 days agoNothing wrong. Why would it be? sounds like your boyfriend is joking, but I would advise to keep a tab on that. Someone trying to undermine your already existing friendships is usually a big red flag.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if our civilization regressed to the Neolithic age due to resource depletion due to global collapse?
8·4 days agoI’d become a craftsperson that’s for sure, whatever I end up doing will probably be creative manual labor of some kind - pottery for example, but not limited to. It depends on the situation wherever I’m at in the hypothetical moment.
Also, as a side hustle I’d be running something like a DnD table. I’d be on a personal quest to reconstruct the rules, I’ll be pretty much asking everyone I meet if they played, what they remember and if they’d be interested in joining my group. I believe with no Internet, tv, or radio, ttrpg would become extremely popular.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do you think of Paramount merging with Warner Bros. Discovery to create a new media company?
11·8 days agoI’m happy to hear Netflix is not acquiring more. I’m not so sure about Paramount and Warner merging though. Could have been worse I guess.
Not only slop, the concept is still not well illustrated either.
But what truly is a proper ice cream cone?
Um ok I would suggest removing the underwear in the second image but honestly I don’t know anything about being a sailor or life in a ship

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does cats (and similar animals) can live with the exact same food every day, but we (humans) need a variety of food to survive?
1·13 days agoYou as a human could also live with the same food every day if it covered every dietary need. Especially if you depended on someone else to acquire it and had no choice.
There is an evolutionary push for a rich variety of nutrients obtained from a variety of sources, but the mechanism driving that daily “need” for variety is force of habit and desire for novelty. On top of that, some people are happy to eat nothing but junk and have very narrow tastes. How come?
Also, I can assure you, a lot of cats will periodically stop eating a certain brand or flavor and go through cycles. Does it mean the food isn’t really covering their needs or are they just bored of the same flavor every day? Hard to know, but I would argue your assumption about humans being too different from their pets when it comes to variety in their menu.

Thank the gods you commented this, I had to read this far to understand bc meant border collie. The post title is so confusing and the body doesn’t explain much
