Unhinged rant for your entertainment: Woz was the visionary in that he designed all the early Apple computers and made the technical innovations that made Apple a company in the first place. Jobs was a vibes giver that made demands, not products. I fucking hate people who call people in tech who did almost none of the engineering the “visionaries” behind the brand. Like, no, any idiot can make something look pretty and marketable, unless that same idiot made it actually work they didn’t do shit. And he inspired an entire generation of “entrepeneurs” who think their one page “idea” (which god forbid you ever need to ask them to clarify any details on) makes them smarter and superior to the workers who produced hundreds of thousands of pages of planning and prototyping, engineering drawings, code, etc etc, and did the actual QA testing to ensure they weren’t shipping sleek looking paperweights. And yet they talk down to those workers and demand they worship them. YOU should be worshipping the people who actually turned your prized idea from useless words and vibes to a real product you can actually sell, they made YOUR dream come true. Jobs should be the kind of people AI replaces, yet it’s people like Woz that are losing their jobs.
Combating artificial intelligence with natural stupidity.

8·2 days agoRaise > promotion
I can’t manage people, don’t want to manage people, taking me out of an engineering/development position to be a manager would literally be hell on Earth for me and probably anyone under me. Keep me at the same position doing the same thing and just pay me more the better I get at it. But that’s not how pretty much any Western company works, worse, they look at your promotion record when deciding who to lay off, not your actual work record, and staying in the same position for too long automatically labels you as a failure.
Interestingly I’ve gotten the 32B (IIRC) local Deepseek R1 model to say it’s Claude as well (in English).
IDK if it’s indicative of distillation or “model theft” though (how do you distill a closed model like Claude?) And why would them training on prompt responses from Claude also carry the name over unless Claude says its name every time? From my uneducated guess it’s probably more of an indication that LLMs don’t actually know anything and the information they’re trained on mentions every AI model so they just randomly “pick” the most commonly mentioned ones for what they think they are if you don’t tell them. Deepseek is a common Chinese model so it’s probably associated with asking names of models in Chinese, same with Claude and English.
Even if true, just block them wtf? Vibe coders don’t understand server side access controls.
You don’t get it. Demo as in demolition. Rule by demolition.
Are there no anarchist books? I’m pretty sure there are and anarchy doesn’t mean willful ignorance.

Russia’s not socialist. Either you still think Russia is the USSR or you’re insinuating every socialist is apparently a Russian shill.
-
This might surprise you, but immigrating to socialist countries like China, Cuba, Vietnam, etc from the West is not as simple “just buy a plane ticket there.” They’re not exactly crazy about a bunch of Westerners moving there after all the West has done to them. You don’t get to “just move” to whatever country you want, you have engage with their immigration system, get a visa, get a work permit, etc etc, you know, the same things immigrants to the West need to do.
-
Even if you do all that, you’re still not entitled to immigrate to a country just because you want to or because you ideologically align with them. You generally need to have a skill that the country you’re immigrating to has a demand for and can’t fill with its own population before they’ll let you move there, you know, exactly like how immigration to the West works. I’m sure there are MANY people here that would love to live in a socialist country. Physically being able to go there is not the barrier for them.

19·4 days agocry about a school full of Iranian kids getting blown up but laugh at a base of 28 year olds trying to escape poverty who are going through the same thing
Yes. People are more sympathetic toward LITERAL CHILDREN than 28 year olds who signed up to be a soldier and HELPED CARRY OUT the murder of said children. You figured out basic human emotion and empathy, congrats.
They protested more when one white person was killed than entire schools of children.
Oh please average Americans have been openly calling for this for decades and celebrated when they finally did it. Your crocodile tears fool no one and you’re only protesting now because the current administration was a little mean to white Americans as well, you never gave a shit about what Americans did to anyone else, not now, not ever. Before this was y’all celebrating the “liberation” of Venezuela, Iraq, the Banana Republics, and on and on and on. You brush aside any civilian casualties with a handwavy “well I for one didn’t want that to happen” and then pretend everyone else criticising you on it are the problem, yet you keep cheering on the military strikes for regime changes themselves as if they’re separate isolated things. Even now you’re more concerned with how people criticising Americans need to “be better” for how they phrase their criticisms because it’s apparently a worse crime to hurt your feelings.
Fuck America and fuck Americans.
What’s your proposed solution then?
The problem with socialism is that people put it as: “You won’t need to do any work and still get money”.
I’ve only heard anti socialists say that as a way of smearing socialism. This is the kind of shit you hear in a PragerU video or something.
Pro tip: Modern battery powered vacuums are lightweight and easy to carry and use. As someone with both a battery powered “manual” vacuum and a robot vacuum (an old one that relies on infrared beacons and has no app integration/smart features), I find that it’s usually more annoying to prep the floor for robot vacuuming (find and remove cables and anything that can jam it, remove temporary things strewn around so it can get to the areas under them, move furniture so it doesn’t get stuck, roll up fluffy rugs that it can get caught on, etc, and then having the anxiety that you missed something so you end up following it around anyway) than just vacuuming myself and moving stuff as I go. It’s one of the things that seem convenient until you actually take a step back and assess whether the problems it creates actually outweighs the problems it solves. Also, I don’t know if the modern ones are better at navigation but mine just rolls around like a pinball and it takes significantly longer for it to cover all the areas than if I did it, and it can end up never actually covering some areas because, again, it just rolls around basically randomly.
If the electoral system only lets you choose leaders who don’t align with the majority, it’s not a democracy. It’s a dictatorship with extra steps.

35·9 days agoIt been interesting to see white people in Canada afraid of being colonized while vehemently downplaying the Indigenous people’s grievances as “why can’t they just accept the culture they’ve been given?” So close to self awareness but will never get there.
Seriously, when Indigenous groups pushed back on Carney’s “elbows up” nation building projects, I saw so many comments from internet geniuses along the lines of “they’re trying to treat this like their inter-tribal relations where they demand soverignty and veto power on anything that goes on in their territory at any point in the process, unfortunately that’s not how Western investment and development work.” Yeah, it really is fucking unfortunate that we’re still denying them their culture and ways of doing things.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Today we're going to learn about wage theftEnglish
342·10 days agoWouldn’t call it “wage theft” so much as “wage slavery.” Theft implies a higher wage was promised to you when profits increase when that absolutely wasn’t the case. They told you completely shamelessly that you would be getting the same shitty wages no matter how well you do and you had no choice to accept it, you know, basically like a slave. At most a slave that could choose their slaver.
Actually, calling wage work slavery isn’t that far off, since many slaves throughout history were paid in some form for their work, and some could even (in theory) buy their freedom. You will never be able to buy your freedom though, the capitalists calculate your wage to ensure you remain poor and desperate so you keep working for them.

19·10 days agoIt’s also manufacturing consent for society to accept being covertly recorded by random people at all times, and potentially for that footage to be posted out of context on the internet with brainrot edits and sound effects mocking people minding their own business because they happened to act a little funny but ultimately harmless in public. It used to be that wearing any kind of hidden camera on your person made you a creep and an asshole period, doubly so if you post any of that footage anywhere, even when it was technically legal. Is it wrong to want it to stay that way? Now you have tech companies not just providing resources to, but actively encouraging that same creep behavior and gas lighting everyone else into thinking they’re the problem if they don’t like it.

Memes@lemmy.ml•"Death to Israel? So you want to kill all Jews?"English
12·10 days agoAs far as I know, Israel’s stance is that because Jews inhabited Israel before the Arab Palestinian “invaders,” they’re completely justified in exterminating them to take back their homeland.
If we assume that Israel’s stance is “correct,” doesn’t it logically follow that every other country is completely justified in exterminating Jews because they’re “invaders” to everywhere but Israel?
If that’s not antisemitic I don’t know what is.
Or, if the assertion is that every country should accept and accommodate Jews (which is the correct assertion obviously), why are Jews in Israel not held to the same standard regarding Palestinians?
