Today’s game is some more Ghost of Tsushima. I got into Act III today, but before I talk about that I wanted to talk about the snow.

Namely the way it looks. It’s got the footsteps just right, like that almost crunchy pattern it has. But more interestingly to me, was the slush. There was a path that I was walking on that got that weird snow slush texture just right. I think it’s really cool the game was able to capture that in its world.

More depressingly though is the Horse’s death. I knew it was coming but it still hit pretty hard. There’s something about games like this that just really feel like punching you in the stomach with a horse death. I know I can count quite a few other times a game has done it.

There was also this guy i poisoned. I’m not sure if this was intended or the AI was just being a little weird but he crawled right into the fire, lit himself on fire, and died. The way he moved into the fire didn’t seem to have the same “finesse” as the rest of the game so I think it was just the AI being weird, but it was certainly interesting nonetheless.

I ended off right after getting into Act 3. The rest of the game world is closed off to me, so I didn’t want to push further in case it took a while. But I’m gonna try and make a final push to complete the main story tomorrow. I think I can get it done with how few missions I remember there being.
The third act started on a punch to the gut that marred the playful fun the game had built up to that point.
Maybe it was because I had done Iki Island (director’s cut DLC) just before starting the third act, and it was pretty amazing. I think it hit the redemption notes of starting from scratch much better than the third act did.
Even moreso, it was also hard for me to buy the contempt against the ghost for going rogue. You’d think they would appreciate someone taking out entire armies by themselves.
I stopped playing at that point when they killed off the hero’s horse. That’s where I draw the line
It definitely tainted the game for me. I had just done Iki Island before, where the first 5 minutes are spent feverishly searching for your horse, hoping it’s alive.
Then, the rest of the island allowed you to give the horse new abilities and new armor, only for me to come back for the beginning of the third act…
Spoiler!!
It’s a beautiful game
Fantastic game, really good story, lovely graphics, lovable characters
Great game. No interest in playing Yotei until they release it for PC.
I’m so upset about Yotei. I do own a PS5 a friend gave to me when he couldn’t take it with him, but honestly I refuse to buy Yotei from them purely out of a moral stance of not giving them money. Maybe I’ll try it if my Library gets a copy, but besides that I don’t see myself ever touching it.
Hopefully they either walk back on their no PC games policy or some dedicated fans find a way to get it on PC
I’m worried/annoyed with Sony’s recent PC pivot that they won’t release it, because there’s no way I’m getting a PS5
That anisotropic filtering on that wooden ledge though. What a beauty. Some blurring too to dampen the effect.
