Many people on lemmy.ml deeply respect and admire authoritarian governments and organizations.

Iran, China, North Korea, Soviet Union…

The West has many flaws. But our flaws are nothing compared to these guys.

Iran hangs homosexuals. Iran shot 30,000 people in less than than 2 weeks. The Soviet Union had to build a fucking Iron wall to prevent people from escaping. The Soviets lied about the Chernobyl nuclear explosion. China censors the internet. China wants to eliminate Islam. North Korea is a totalitarian hellscape. Watching anime is a crime.

Why is lemmy.ml so fascinated with authoritarians?

Agitators don’t discriminate. The left doesn’t acknowledge that they are susceptible to the same infiltration as what happened to the far right throughout the 2010s that spawned the current era of fascism.

I acknowledge that the left is susceptible, but I don’t acknowledge that it’s equally susceptible.

It’s like the recent news of the guy that created an AI chatbot for the right and fleeced the shit out of them, but he tried a left leaning AI chatbot and couldn’t make profit off it.

You’re flat out wrong. Entirely wrong, you have it backwards.

The political right is characterized by willingness to let almost anything slide if it favors a handful of typical priorities. They’re effective because they can swallow all kinds of disagreement in service of those goals. Just look at the history of Trump, it’s an unbelievable tale of huge supposedly principled groups of people doing exactly that, sacrificing their principles to fall in line with (lip-service to) their few cherished ideals.

The political left is basically opposite from that, and you find more and more disagreement among leftists, within themselves, the further left you look.

All humans are susceptible to propaganda and the basics of group psychology, no disagreement about that. But leftists as a rule tend to have specific and uncompromising goals that makes them harder to co-opt, while making them easier to simply split along those lines.

I don’t think you understand leftist thinking or movements very well, from what ya said.

spawned the current era of fascism

I think you’ll find that the US has been distinctly fascist for it’s entire history. The German fascists studied the American project - the mass murder of American Indians, the reservation system, the concentration camps, the child separation, the boarding schools, the cultural genocide, chattel slavery, black codes, American apartheid and everything the supported the domestic terrorism and policing and prisons that kept it all going. The German fascists extended American fascism to Europe with an intention of dominating Russia and becoming like the American colonists of the region.

And then, when the Soviets defeated the Nazis, the USA entered the war, partnered up with the Vatican, and saved 10k Nazis from justice by bringing them to the USA and distributing them into all territories the USA had influence over. They integrated German Nazis directly into the US government. And then when they built West Germany, Nazi politicians took office immediately. And then when they built NATO, they staffed it top to bottom with former Nazis.

No. American fascism didn’t start in 2010. You were just unaware of the fascist movement until then.
