    Hot take? Maybe. Conspiracy theory? Probably a better description for what i am about to say.

    I truly believe that the reason the “No Child Left Behind Act” was made/passed, at least in part, was to try and make kids “blind”, so to speak, as to the wrong/evil that the government is doing.

    Or at the very least, that’s why book bans are a thing.

      More broadly, the purpose of our education system is not to educate or enlighten but to shape useful, compliant citizens. Common core was another sharp turn for the worse, go read about how controversial mandating attendance was back in the day. Picking on nerds as an act of resistance is weird to think about from here :p

      Idk, I feel like if that was the plan it had the absolute opposite effect. All of my friends getting forced into tests that didn’t matter and getting suspended for getting beaten up made most of us realize that the school/govt had no clue what they were doing
