52·15 hours agoNice!!! But I feel those entry distros could do a lot more to be more user friendly, there are many edge cases where you still need to use a terminal and have some understanding of the OS. We need a truly GUI only distro with more wizards, and automatic repair so more people flee to Gnu/Linux

21·15 hours agoUnfortunately there’s no good term for that, I guess.
Market manipulation?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What unusual/uncommon item(s) do you always keep around for a perfectly logical reasons?
5·1 day agoBe careful with that, just a jittery movement or a specular reflection and you may also damage someone’s retina with that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Android will become a locked-down platform in 194 daysEnglish
3·1 day agoI meant that it would die as an “open” platform, so power users would be compelled to stop using android.

2·2 days agoI understand, but there’s a good argument that android is the reason why GNU/Linux phones don’t get good.
The death of android as an “open” platform would put some pressure to actual develop an alternative.

35·2 days agoNot sure how I should feel about this, if I should support the cause to keep android “open” (when it’s everything but), or if I should be happy that this piece of removed OS finally shows it’s true colours and people (including me) will finally be forced to find an alternative or stop using this trashware all together.
And hopefully developers finally get serious about GNU/Linux phones.
Anna’s Archive or libgen for downloading epub, Librera Pro from F-Droid for reading.
PDF sucks, epub let’s you configure everything like font, font size, space between lines and alignment to the left.
I pretty much prefer reading on my phone than physical book.

31·3 days agoNot sure why you’re getting down votes, AI is a good tool when used properly.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your car is spying on you – and Israeli firms are leading the surveillance race
1·3 days agoNo, it’s not possible, at most they could cause the battery to overheat and either expand or “explode” just enough so you notice it and take the phone out of your pocket without causing any harm.
As for cars, there’s potentially enough energy in there for a real explosion.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hey, guys. Is it a good idea to dunk PC parts in isopropyl alcohol?
1·9 days agoI think alcohol may dissolve somethings that aren’t supposed to be dissolved, I wouldn’t risk it. If it’s working don’t fix it. But if you have to I would use contact spray instead, it’s made to be nonconductive and noncorrosive.

Apart from open WRT, there’s also opensense or opn Sense which let’s you turn any old computer into a router as long as it has 2 network cards.
You may also need a switch and a WiFi AP tho, so at that point you better get an openWRT router. Just leaving this info here in case it’s useful.
