I have figured out where my intense dislike of using AI comes from. My need for control/understanding stuff I create.
AI doesn’t take that away from you though. You don’t have to outsource your job to an LLM, but you can use it to supplement your skills. People choose how to use AI, and while it’s true that many take the easy path - that’s totally on them.
What games do you play?
I can’t say xbox series x disappointed me, but compared to playstation it felt meh - probably due to as unenthusiastic UI as a gaming console can get. I guess I was lucky with consoles if this is the biggest issue.
Well why would lemmy and reddit be any different? Same format, same people - just on a smaller scale. But it makes any drama more visible.
I guess this is inevitable given the open nature of the fedi. Still, it’d be better if admins were open about this as some people have broader ethical concerns, and they might not want to sponsor instances that use these money to pay for LLMs.
I understand that some form of automation is necessary - we saw large instances closing because they couldn’t find mods. My main objection in this scenario would be is that I didn’t consent to train OpenAI models. I think the users should know if their instance uses external services like that.
I also suspect that there might be cheaper and more ethical solutions. Although it’s hard to talk about this without seeing the actual results.
You either pay or you don’t play. It’s not like console players have a choice.
